Couples Counselling

Research shows that to make a relationship last, couples must become better friends, learn to manage conflict, and create ways to support each other’s hopes for the future. Drs. John and Julie Gottman of the Gottman Institute in Seattle, USA, have shown how couples can accomplish this by paying attention to what they call the Sound Relationship House, or the nine components of healthy relationships. You can learn more about their work here: https://www.gottman.com/about-gottman-method-couples-therapy/

Gottman Method Couples Therapy was developed out of this research to help partners:

Increase respect, affection, and closeness

Generate greater understanding between partners

Break through and resolve conflict when they feel stuck

Keep conflict discussions calm

Doley Psychology Services offers couples counselling utilising the principles of the highly researched Gottman Method, as well as a range of techniques from other evidence based approaches, such as Emotion Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
